The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced huge changes to Venezuela’s existing TPS designation. Those who have not filed an initial TPS application must be filed by TOMORROW, September 9, 2022. Please note that individuals who do not reside in the United States, or arrived in the United States after March 8, 2021 are not eligible for TPS.
Any individual who already has TPS must re-register and renew their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) by November 7, 2022. Only Venezuelan beneficiaries who hold TPS and continue to meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to re-register and renew their EADs.
DHS recognizes that not all re-registrants may receive their new EADs before their current EADs expire. Therefore, the expiration date of EADs previously issued under the TPS designation of Venezuela will be extended through September 9, 2023.
USCIS will continue to process pending applications filed under Venezuela’s initial TPS designation. Individuals with a pending Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, or a related Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, do not need to file either application again. If USCIS approves a Form I-821 or Form I-765 filed under the initial designation of TPS for Venezuela, USCIS will grant the individual TPS through March 10, 2024 and issue a new EAD valid through March 10, 2024.
