POTENTIAL IMMIGRATION ACTIONS MAY IMPACT INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Client Alert!

Potential Travel Ban

According to Reuters, there is speculation about a potential travel ban that could impact citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Additionally, other countries that may be affected include Sudan, Venezuela, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Libya, Cuba, and North Korea. Individuals from these countries who are currently abroad and wish to maintain their ability to return to the United States should consider returning as soon as possible, pending further official guidance.

Consular Closures

According to The New York Times, there is a proposal to close a dozen consular posts, primarily in Western Europe. While these reports do not specify whether visa-issuing consular posts are included, any closures could contribute to increased delays in visa processing. Employers should prepare for potential disruptions and extended wait times for visa appointments, particularly for employees seeking visa renewals in Western Europe.

Recommendations for Employers and Individuals

  • Individuals potentially affected by a travel ban should assess their current travel plans and, if abroad, consider returning to the U.S. immediately to avoid possible entry restrictions.
  • Employers should review international travel plans for employees from affected countries and advise caution regarding upcoming travel.
  • Employers should also plan for visa issuance delays, especially in Western Europe, and explore alternative options if necessary.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as official information becomes available.
